Inspired by this stained glass image in the Vatican, the Spirit of Pentecost Christian cross quilt radiates in brilliant white in front of the dark cross. The colors move from light to dark, as the fabrics grade from white to deep red.
Simple color changes, as shown in the images, completely change the look and feel!
- Add visual interest by using fabrics with prints.
- Change the look and feel by making each ray of light out of a single color.
- Use solids or fabrics from a single line to create a cohesive look (this image is made with the Watercolor line from Hoffman Fabrics)
- For a more bold look, use less fabrics than the pattern calls for and decrease the grades/tones you use.
Acts 2:1-4 says: "When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." Share this story in creating your quilt; we, too, are given gifts and abilities to empower us on our mission.
This foundation paper pieced Christian cross quilt top measures 36" wide x 48" long (center section only).
